Dinner and Walks on Cocoa Beach

Yesterday Ray and I went on one of our favorite dates. We walked to a local restaurant for an early dinner. Then we went on our daily walk on the Beach.

It is rare that we find a restaurant that consistently serves fresh, quality food and I must say that is our experience with "Barrier Jack's" restaurant. The small cozy atmosphere makes us feel almost like we are in our own dining room. We go early to beat the rush and sometimes we are the only customers throughout most of our meal. Ray get's his "beef fix" with their wonderful burgers and I usually order a dinner Caesar salad with fish. The salad is always fresh and the dressing tastes homemade. We always start with a bowl of their savory home made soup. Last night I had their dinner special - "Stuffed Flounder with "real" crab - delicious! I am not a restaurant reviewer, just a happy customer!

While walking on the beach, we noticed that the crowds are subsiding. Spring break activity is finally slowing down. I keep saying that I am going to take a camera with me to catch the interesting shots on the beach. We have seen wonderful "Sand Art" from visitors including castles, turtles and other beautiful designs. Our normal walkng route on our daily beach walk is to enter through Lori Wilson park and head south to exit on 4th St. North (sometimes we walk this in reverse).

We love Lori Wilson park. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful park right on the beach. One of our favorite stops on our walks is to watch the dogs play in the Dog Park at Lori Wilson. This always makes Ray smile to watch the happy dogs run and enjoy themselves. He misses his dogs (CB and Muggs) so much. They recently passed due to old age.

Another stop when we have time, is to sit on one of the benches that face the ocean on the Lori Wilson Board walk. Such a beautiful view! We can see cruise ships on the horizen and the NASA Cape. We enjoy the fresh air and sunshine so much. Sometimes I feel guilty sharing my experiences in "Paradise" with my northern friends and family while they struggle with ice and freezing weather!

Why I moved to Cocoa Beach

Welcome to my new Blog about Cocoa Beach Life. This Blog is tailored for current and (and future) residents of Cocoa Beach, FL. I will begin my Blog by sharing why I personally moved to Cocoa Beach.

I grew up as a "Navy Brat" so moving has always been part of my life. I have lived in California, Hawaii, Spain, Italy, Atlanta,GA area and in the Suburbs of Washington, DC (Northern Virginia). My mother is from Switzerland so visits to my grandparents meant numerous trips to Europe.

Prior to moving to Cocoa Beach, I always had a dream that one day I would live in a very small town that reminded me of a relaxed vacation -- preferably on a beach.

Then I discovered "Cocoa Beach". Thanks to an invitation to visit Ray (now my husband), Cocoa Beach met my dream of finding a "small town with a relaxed vacation atomosphere" that I could live in. Even better, life here is safe, quiet and not overrun with large convention and "bike week" type activities that I could never live with.

After several visits and numerous online research studies (I have learned to do this before a move to a new area) I was pleased to find a number of positive traits. This is a safe, clean town. The weather is fantastic. The high school, Cocoa Beach Jr/Sr High (CBHS) is outstanding. CBHS has an "IB" program and is rated as one of the top 100 high schools in our country. There is a new new Auditorium under construction at CBHS that will provide a base for music, chorus and drama for both school and city productions.

In regard to City of Cocoa Beach City "growth planning", there are building height restrictions in place that prevent high rises from being built. Cocoa Beach has an "Artsy" atomosphere which is encouraged and promoted through Art festivals. There is a wide range of both local seafood and ethnic restaurants to enjoy, most of which that I can walk to! Cocoa Beach is the type of town that we can both raise families and retire.

I have so many other stories to share with you in future posts which will include my impressions of local restaurants, our fabulous library, downtown and beach activities, etc. Check back soon!
